***Virtual Classrooms***

Article: http://education.qld.gov.au/learningplace/onlinelearning/virtual-classroom.html

Summary:
Virtual classrooms offer homeschooled students the ability to continue their education from home and receive an education from someone with the knowledge and the expertise. Students can work at a pace that works for them with Virtual Classrooms. Teachers of virtual classrooms are available to answer questions and offer help on assignments. In some cases, virtual classrooms offer classes otherwise not available to students. For example, if a biology class is not offered because of the lack of a professor, a virtual classroom allows the students to study biology from their hometown.

Further Research:
Using a Virtual Classroom: What's In It for You? Learn theory & practical skills. A virtual classroom can be used as a tool to encourage learning outside the classroom along with being an alternative to a regular classroom. Teacher's can facilitate many activities 24 hours a day in a virtual classroom. A virtual classroom can contain many activities. Some activities might include: group or individual projects, chats, quizzes, surveys, and even homework. The virtual classroom can also be a tool to inform parents and students about their progress and what is going on in the classroom. For example, the virtual classroom could have announcements, a calendar, grade book, chapter overviews and student information such as photos, information or even a personal web page.

Thinking and Reflecting:
Our article this week address a subject that has been around forever but in a new way, home schooling. When I think of student who home school the virtual classroom does not come to mind, but with this new tool for parents to use they have the ability to still have their children at home with them when they reach a level of learning that is higher than the parents own teaching ability. They also have the ability to utilize a certified teacher which was not possible for home schooling of the past.
This article states that a common use of virtual classrooms is for students who are home-schooled. As the kids get older, the amount of knowledge the parents have on a particular subject may not be as high as they expect their high school students to be. Virtual classrooms are a good way for at-home students or distance learners to take a class at their own pace, without the assistance of their parents. If the parents do not want to 'force' their high school students to the big adjustment of a real high school, a virtual classroom would be a great way for their student to take a course that they are not prepared to teach.

This was a good post! I liked it that you put a summary. Short and to the point. And then how you put further research. That was pretty cool. You definately kept my attention. And I learned a lot from this. I know that if my kids are ever homeschooled, VR classrooms are helpful.

For some reason I had a hard time reading the post this week. I think it was the font and color combination. I think you could have improved the blog by explaining what it was you were summarizing first.

I disagree with the first comment post. I think the colors work well together and is very easy to read. I think you guys got straight to what you were summarizing.....I also liked how you put the "further research" section in it. That was really interesting! Good job this week!

I think that article was mainly about blackboard and that is only a small aspect of how to utilize the virtual classrooms. Great further research though. Overall awesome job!

Nice work team four. I like the fact that you brought homeschool students into this post. I think virtual classrooms offer homeschooled students an oppurtunity to learn at their own pace and obtain all the knowledge they need. It gives them time to absorb the information.

Homeschool students use virtual classrooms to continue their education. A virtual classroom can be used as a tool to encourage learning outside the classroom along with being an alternative to a reular classroom. This article summary revolves around homeschooled studetns. The virtual classroom gives parents the ability to still have their children at home with them when they reach a level of learning that is higher than the parents own teaching ability.

I like how your introduction was a summary that included the positive aspects of a virtual classroom. It draws the reader in and makes them want to continue reading. I also like how at one point you compared virtual classrooms to homeschooling. I never really thought of it that way, and it's a good point.

I think virtual classrooms have become helpful in all grades. The article discussed a lot about blackboards, but I think you could have talked about more about the different utilizations of the virtual classrooms. Good job overall though.

Great Work Group 4! I thought your summary was really good and your blog had a lot of great information but I didn't really like the layout. I think you could have displayed the information a little better that would have made it easier to read. But I think your blog had some very good information and I learned a lot from reading it! Great Work Group 4!

I think that virtual education is a great learning tool that has been perfected over the past few years. In the situation of our troops over seas, I know that virtual education plays a major role in their education when it comes to earning degrees. Being able to earn their degrees while protecting our country is a great feature to our soliders because they will have more job opportunities for their post army occupations and I am sure it helps to pass the time during their deployments. So virtual education is really avaliable anywhere, even over in the middle east!
